That always raised the next question: how does it behave in a bolt gun? I already had a couple of 6mm ARC bolt barrels waiting \u2014 and those barrels alone cost more than this whole rifle. So the hunt was for a <strong>factory<\/strong> 6ARC bolt under roughly the two-thousand-dollar conversation, on a real production schedule.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of filming, Mossberg kept sliding their 6ARC plans, CZ\u2019s older mini-action path died with the 527 \/ 600 shuffle (no clear 6ARC \u2014 or even 6.5 Grendel \u2014 in the 600 lane yet), and Howa\u2019s mini \/ 1500 path was basically vapor when I bugged dealers. Christensen and similar existed at a different price tier. Practically speaking, the production guns you could actually find under about <strong>$1,000\u2013$1,500<\/strong> were coming from <strong>Savage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Axis vs 110 Tactical vs Switchback<\/h2>\n<p>Savage\u2019s own menu in 6ARC looked like this on tape:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Axis<\/strong> \u2014 standard Axis story: thinner barrel, rougher action feel, not the package I wanted for a serious 6ARC bolt.<\/li>\n<li><strong>110 Tactical<\/strong> \u2014 the one I was actually excited about (good action, heavier contour)\u2026 until Savage put a short <strong>16&#8243; or 18&#8243;<\/strong> tube on the 6ARC Tactical, which kind of defeats why I\u2019d want that model for the cartridge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>110 Switchback<\/strong> \u2014 Sportsman\u2019s Warehouse house SKU. Same idea as Cabela\u2019s-style exclusives: big enough retailer asks the factory for its own line. And they had it in <strong>6mm ARC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What\u2019s in the box<\/h2>\n<p>Classic Savage carton: firearm, bolt, magazine, manual (same family manual covering 110 \/ 111 \/ 114 \/ 16 bolt guns), cable lock, ear plugs, NRA join card, stickers, a little bolt tool, and \u2014 nice touch \u2014 a Savage <strong>load \/ DOPE-style card<\/strong> with range and wind columns plus a \u201cbullet pen.\u201d Stickers go on glass if you want; don\u2019t plaster your car unless you enjoy announcing \u201cguns live here.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>What you actually get on the Switchback<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Savage 110 action<\/strong> with the oversized \/ textured bolt handle style familiar from the 110 Tactical (swap later for a threaded Anarchy Outdoors handle if you want)<\/li>\n<li><strong>User-adjustable AccuTrigger<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Heavier-contour barrel<\/strong>, already <strong>threaded<\/strong>, with a radial <strong>muzzle brake<\/strong> in the package \u2014 huge vs cheaper exclusives that ship unthreaded and leave you stuck<\/li>\n<li><strong>20 MOA Weaver rail<\/strong> on top (I already had a 30\/40 MOA replacement with bubble level planned)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Polymer stock<\/strong> in Sportsman\u2019s exclusive gray-ish camo, with LOP spacers in the box \u2014 but <strong>not<\/strong> AccuStock (no aluminum bedding block, no AccuFit-style adjustable comb like the Tactical)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Detachable mag<\/strong> \u2014 short-action style closer to Axis than the Tactical\u2019s AICS pattern: metal body, polymer base pad, front release, rear spacer to keep 6ARC \/ Grendel-length cases from diving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Free-float looks decent with a little stock flex. Compared to a flimsy Howa-stock Remington 700 SPS Tactical I\u2019d just picked up (barrel nearly kissing the channel), I didn\u2019t expect harmonic drama here with mild 6ARC recoil \u2014 but that\u2019s a shoot-it-and-see item.<\/p>\n<h2>Value math (as filmed)<\/h2>\n<p>On tape, full MSRP conversation sat around <strong>$549<\/strong>. I signed up for the store credit card for another <strong>$50<\/strong> off and walked at <strong>$499<\/strong> \u2014 own money, not a freebie. You\u2019re getting most of the Tactical\u2019s useful hardware (heavier contour, threaded muzzle + brake, AccuTrigger, tactical-style bolt handle) without AccuStock bedding \/ comb and without the fluted barrel. For a 6ARC factory bolt you can actually buy, that was the best bang-for-buck configuration I saw in that price band.<\/p>\n<h2>Expectations before first shots<\/h2>\n<p>I had not fired it yet. Community chatter pointed at <strong>sub-MOA<\/strong>, with some folks claiming half-MOA potential. My own Savage experience says plan for the classic weak <strong>ejection \/ extraction<\/strong> quirks and work them if they show up. Long-term plan on camera: shoot it stock, then chassis it (Sharps Heatseeker lined up), try a different brake and a suppressor, keep AccuTrigger for a while, and eventually apples-to-apples it against a Ruger American 6.5 Grendel action getting a custom 6ARC barrel in the same chassis.<\/p>\n<h2>Bottom line<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re hunting a production <strong>6mm ARC bolt gun<\/strong> that isn\u2019t vapor-ware and isn\u2019t Christensen money, the Sportsman\u2019s <strong>110 Switchback<\/strong> was the configuration I\u2019d actually buy out of Savage\u2019s lineup at the time \u2014 threaded heavy-ish barrel with a brake, AccuTrigger, and a price that leaves room for glass and a chassis later.
