Plenty of folks love-or-hate Taurus, but they keep shipping feature-packed guns at a price that\u2019s hard to ignore \u2014 and that\u2019s why I called the regular G3C one of the best values in the sub-$300 carry lane when it landed.<\/p>\n<p>Then the market shifted hard toward <strong>optics-ready subcompacts<\/strong> \u2014 Hellcat, P365 family, Ruger Max-9, and friends. TORO is Taurus\u2019s answer on the G3C: keep the compact that already fixed common G2C complaints (trigger blade, front serrations) and add a real optic-ready slide.<\/p>\n<h2>The plate system (the real TORO upside)<\/h2>\n<p>A lot of competitors ship cut for <em>one<\/em> footprint. The G3C TORO uses a <strong>plate system<\/strong> so you\u2019re not locked into a single optic family. Out of the box you get <strong>four plates<\/strong> and <strong>three screw sets<\/strong> covering common patterns called out in the video:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trijicon RMR<\/li>\n<li>Docter \/ Noblex \/ Burris FastFire-style<\/li>\n<li>Shield \/ RMS \/ SMS-style<\/li>\n<li>Leupold DeltaPoint<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note from the tape: a larger <strong>Romeo3 Max<\/strong>-class optic is too long for this cut. Don\u2019t want a red dot? Install the included cover plate. From the factory, plates aren\u2019t pre-mounted \u2014 pick your optic, match the plate, mount it. I ran a <strong>Leupold 6 MOA DeltaPoint Pro<\/strong> for this video \u2014 big, bright, carry-friendly window.<\/p>\n<h2>Range notes<\/h2>\n<p>On the range the TORO felt like what you\u2019d expect from a G3C: a clear step up from the old G2C trigger. Groups with the DeltaPoint Pro at about <strong>15 yards<\/strong> landed in the roughly <strong>1.25\u20131.5\u2033<\/strong> neighborhood on the better strings (with a called flyer or two if you count everything) \u2014 perfectly usable for a compact carry gun with a dot. Side-by-side with a Max-9 on the same day, practical accuracy was in the same ballpark once I owned my breaks.<\/p>\n<h2>Size, price, and the tradeoffs<\/h2>\n<p>The G3C TORO is still a <strong>compact<\/strong> \u2014 about <strong>12 rounds of 9mm<\/strong> in a package that used to live in the \u201c10-round compact\u201d size class. Versus Max-9 \/ P365X \/ Hellcat, it\u2019s a bit bigger <em>all around<\/em>: thicker, a touch longer, a bit heavier. That\u2019s not automatically worse \u2014 bigger hands often get a better grip, and the extra mass soaks recoil a tad better.<\/p>\n<p>Price was the headline on tape: MSRP a bit over <strong>$400<\/strong>, street often around <strong>$350<\/strong> at the time \u2014 still among the cheapest mainstream optics-ready carry options when the video went up. Confirm today\u2019s tags; 2021 numbers don\u2019t stick forever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Downsides to know before you buy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plate stack height:<\/strong> the optic sits higher, so more weight up high and (for me) no co-witness with the irons. If the battery dies, you\u2019re pointing \u2014 unlike a Max-9 where backup irons can still show through some setups.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trigger reach:<\/strong> same G2C\/G3C geometry. For my technique the break sits a wee bit close to the frame. Smaller hands \/ different technique may actually prefer that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Bottom line<\/h2>\n<p>If you want a solid optics-ready carry gun, you\u2019re okay with a true compact instead of the tiniest micro, you want to reuse a common optic footprint, and you\u2019re watching the budget \u2014 the <strong>G3C TORO<\/strong> is a strong overall achiever.
