Well, that was a blowout.
Democrats flipped the Senate and took the House with what could be their biggest majority in nearly 20 years. Texas elected a Democratic senator AND a Democratic governor. By midnight, Everytown and Giffords were both bragging about a new “gun safety majority” in Congress.
Our take: your gun rights are generally safe. But don’t kid yourself. Expect a real push for more gun control: universal background checks, red flag laws, maybe another swing at an “assault weapons” ban. President Trump still holds the veto pen. Honestly, though, we wouldn’t be shocked if he traded away some 2A ground to get something else he wants out of the new Congress. Keep an eye on it and keep calling your reps.
One bright spot: Arkansas voters just wrote “shall not be infringed” into their state constitution with about 70% of the vote.
