Shot Show 2024 booth walkthrough with Matt of Palmetto State Armory — not a purchased T&E or range review. Specs, concept status, and timing below are as stated on the booth floor.
Squat Squad — day one of Shot Show 2024 and I’m back at the booth that year in and year out is one of the most packed on the floor: Palmetto State Armory. Matt walked me through what’s new and fun on the rifle side, starting with two Jackal-family concepts you need to know about if you like piston ARs that aren’t just another clone.

Jackal Odin — bullpup concept
Matt started with the Odin: a bullpup extension of PSA’s Jackal line. If you’re new to Jackal, the short version from the booth:
- Monolithic upper that fits a standard AR-15 lower
- Long-stroke piston driven system
- Non-reciprocating side charging handle — ambidextrous, toolless swap from one side to the other
- Adjustable gas block for suppressors and ammo combos
Jackal already landed in 5.56 and 300 Blackout. The Odin is the “every good gun deserves a bullpup” take: a bullpup lower that accepts any Jackal upper, ambi mag release, and it takes AR fire-control groups (including pistol-grip setups). The sample on the floor was chambered in 5.56.
Use case talk: bullpups shorten the package for stowing and handling, and Matt was honest that the AR market is saturated — PSA is trying to make something fun, different, and reliable, not another identical 16-inch clone.
Important: this one is a concept gun, not a production SKU on the shelf. PSA brought concepts to the show and put a customer poll on the website so you can vote your top three priorities for what they actually work on.
.308 Jackal — further along
Next up was the gun that looks a little like a baby SCAR vibe on the table: the .308 Jackal. Same Jackal premise (long-stroke piston), scaled up:
- Larger parts to handle .308
- New extrusions for the handguard and upper
- 13.5″ pin-and-weld barrel on the sample
- Eight-position adjustable gas block
- Collapsible stock
Matt framed it as battle-rifle and range gun — including talk of shooting out toward 600–1,000 yards — and said they’re trying some accuracy-focused changes on the .308 they couldn’t detail on camera yet.
Process-wise, the .308 is further along than the bullpup: assembled guns ready for testing. It’s still on the same concept / poll track, but if customers prioritize it, Matt said it would land significantly earlier than the Odin.
How to vote
At the booth date, neither gun was listed as a normal product page — they live on PSA’s poll. So if either of these Jackal ideas is your jam, vote with your voice (and later your wallet). I want firearms that are fun and truly affordable, and PSA keeps showing up with new stuff every year.
Bottom line
Shot Show 2024 rifle booth tour with Matt — not a range report: Jackal Odin bullpup concept (5.56 sample, any-Jackal-upper lower, ambi charger / mag release) and a more advanced .308 Jackal (13.5″ P&W, 8-pos gas, collapsible stock) that could ship sooner if the poll says so.
