Hey channel fans and family. I am out at the range, and I am not afraid to say it out loud: I might have been wrong about the Springfield 2020 Rimfire.
I have had this gun for about a year and a half — since whenever it came out. There were a ton of horrible reviews. I bought it, I fed it good ammo from standard-velocity CCI up through Lapua Center-X (and the SK stuff in between), and it just did not shoot that well for me. That was the earlier story.
This clip is not the full-blown review yet. It is me putting the rifle back under a new scope — the Vector Optics Continental 2–12 — because a short I did on this gun was blowing up again, and I figured I owed it another honest look.
What actually happened on this trip
Ammo this time: ELEY Target. Results I called out on camera, off the Lux Gun Hunt tripod:
- Three for three on a target at 200 yards.
- Five for five on a mini IPSC / BC plate at 300 yards.
That is not a 50-round group study. That is not a match score. That is enough of a turnaround that I am willing to say the earlier take might not be the whole story — or the gun needed a few hundred, a thousand, maybe a couple thousand rounds to settle in. I do not know which yet. I said we will find out.
What comes next
I have more of that ELEY left. I am going to give the Springfield 2020 Rimfire a full look, and I want to run it in a PRS Rimfire match once we have a little weather certainty. If the gun keeps behaving like this trip, I will say I was wrong. If it falls apart again, I will say that too. No ego tax either way.
The optic in this clip is the same Continental 2–12 first look we already covered in the Vector Continental 2-12×44 article (or watch that video on the channel if the article is still catching up). Rimfire parallax and mid-power glass are a big part of why this pairing made sense for a second chance.

Bottom line
Earlier: Springfield 2020 Rimfire plus good ammo did not impress me. This trip: ELEY Target, Continental 2–12, Lux Gun Hunt tripod, clean hits at 200 and 300. Full review and a PRS Rimfire match still to come. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe it needed break-in. Either way, I am not burying the update.

Keep on squatting. I’ll see you at the match.
Did your Springfield 2020 Rimfire need a long break-in, or did it shoot from day one?
