Squat Squad, this one is a look back to SHOT Show 2023 (the video went up in February 2023). If you watch our 6.5 PRC content, you’ve seen Accurate-Mag magazines in almost every one of those videos, because they were pretty much the only ones making a mag specifically for 6.5 PRC that actually worked. Then I went on their website and found out they do a lot more than mags: first a chassis, and then a couple of days before SHOT Show I got an email saying they had actions and complete rifles too. So I made sure to stop by the booth, and Wilson from Accurate-Mag walked me through all of it.
Quick note: this is a booth walkthrough at SHOT Show 2023, not a SlavGuns range test and evaluation. Pricing quoted at the show was 2023 pricing, so I’m leaving it out here; check Accurate-Mag for current numbers. TL;DR
- The news in 2023: the magazine company was now selling bare actions, barreled actions and complete rifles, plus a modular chassis line.
- The action: AM725, Remington 700 short action pattern, three-lug bolt with a 60 degree throw and an M16 style extractor. Takes Remington 700 pattern triggers.
- Three ways to buy: bare action, barreled action (.308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, with a TriggerTech trigger), or the complete AM725 A1 rifle in their Sport-Tact chassis.
- The chassis: three pieces (buttstock, center section, fore end), with seven fore end options and four buttstocks you can mix and match.
- Inlets: Remington short and long action, Savage short and long action, Ruger Gunsite Scout, Tikka T3x and RPA Rangemaster, with left-handed versions of some.
- Made in USA: everything is made in Connecticut.
A three-lug that doesn’t feel like a three-lug
The display rifle was the AM725 A1, built on their AM725 action, which is a Remington 700 short action pattern. Here’s the funny part: I played with it before we started filming and did not realize it was a three-lug, 60 degree bolt. A short 60 degree throw usually means a heavier lift, because the cocking happens over less rotation. This one was freaking smooth. Wilson had been using that rifle as a demo for a couple of weeks, and the way he described it was a short pop up and right back in, thanks to the timing they engineered into the action.
Other details from the booth:
- M16 style extractor.
- Remington 700 footprint and Remington 700 triggers. People get very personal about triggers, single stage versus two stage, so being able to drop in the 700 trigger of your choice is a big deal.
- Standard bolt face. I asked about magnum or 6.5 Grendel bolt faces for the 6 ARC crowd. Wilson said they had stuff in the pipeline but weren’t releasing it yet. Same story for a longer action: possible down the road, and they told people to email them if they want it.
Bare action, barreled action or complete rifle
What I liked is that you’re not forced to buy a whole gun just to get the action. At the show, Accurate-Mag offered three options:
- Bare action for your own build.
- Barreled action in either .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, with a TriggerTech trigger.
- Complete rifle (AM725 A1) in the Sport-Tact chassis with their Stratum folding buttstock and the then-new PRS fore end with an ARCA rail and M-LOK.
Wilson said everything was available right then, and that keeping the parts American made, all in Connecticut, while keeping the price reasonable was the goal. Considering how expensive custom actions have gotten, I thought the action pricing they quoted at the time was very attainable. Today Accurate-Mag lists the AM725-A1 as an accurized Remington 700 pattern three-lug with a TriggerTech trigger, a threaded stainless barrel, a 20 MOA Picatinny rail, and a sub-MOA guarantee at 100 meters with match ammo (it ships with a test target).
The modular chassis
The Accurate-Mag chassis is three pieces: the buttstock, the center section and the fore end. The buttstocks and fore ends are interchangeable, and at the show they had seven fore end options and four buttstocks: folders like the Stratum, another folding style with plastic side pieces, full M-LOK wraparound fore ends and half fore ends.
Anybody who watches the channel knows I love shooting off a tripod, especially when you’re older, teaching somebody new or dealing with back issues, so an ARCA rail is my thing. But not everybody wants ARCA yet, and the ARCA fore end does have a bit of an edge to it. The traditional style fore ends are slimmer and you can easily wrap your hand around them, which is nice for hunters and for anyone who doesn’t want to be a first adopter.
You can buy one of six pre-configured chassis or go a la carte and build your own. Wilson also showed a really small, short configuration. The first thing I thought of was a bolt action pistol build, and he pointed out it also makes a great light hunting rifle with a collapsible stock, a short barrel and their sport fore end.
Inlets, lefties and where to buy
At the show, the chassis inlets covered Remington short and long action, Savage short and long action, Ruger Gunsite Scout, Tikka T3x and RPA Rangemaster, plus left-handed patterns for a few of those. Half my family is left-handed (in Soviet Russia, they teach it out of you), so I was happy to hear that. The Tikka fanboys are going to go crazy over that inlet too. I asked about Ruger Americans and other rifles. Nothing was planned, but if enough people ask, bug them and maybe they’ll make it happen.
Their magazines are sold through lots of retailers. The chassis and rifles were going through a couple of distributors in limited quantities, with Accurate-Mag’s own website as the reliable place to get them, especially if you want an unusual configuration.
What’s happened since
This booth was the start of Accurate-Mag’s rifle and chassis push. We later spent real time with the complete rifle (see Accurate-Mag AM-725 A1 Rifle: The New Standard in Precision Shooting), and at SHOT Show 2025 they showed a one-piece lightweight chassis, which we covered in Accurate-Mag Sport-Tact Ultra Lite Chassis: A Budget-Friendly Way Into Chassis Rifles. Their current site also lists Ultra Lite chassis for the Ruger 10/22 and the Savage Axis. So the “bug them and maybe they’ll make it” approach seems to work. Check the current inlet list for your exact rifle before you order.
Our take
Accurate-Mag earned a spot on our rifles the hard way: their 6.5 PRC mags just work. Seeing that same company build a smooth three-lug, 60 degree action on the Remington 700 footprint, sell it bare, barreled or as a complete rifle, and back it with a mix-and-match chassis made in Connecticut was one of the things I was most excited about at SHOT Show 2023. Keep in mind this was a booth look, not a range test. For the hands-on story, read the AM725 A1 articles linked above, and if you shoot 6.5 PRC, check out our Ruger Precision Rifle 6.5 PRC review.
