Shot Show 2022 range demo / first look: booth-side talk with Jason from Uintah Precision on their bolt-action AR uppers and complete guns, plus a live hit at ~960 yards with a 13″ barrel (~11 min). This is not a multi-month SlavGuns T&E of my own Uintah rifle. Hey channel fans and family — if you’ve been eyeing modular bolt guns and wondering whether a short-barrel precision AR can still stretch out past nine football fields, this tape is the one. Here’s my Shot Show 2022 range sit-down with Jason from Uintah Precision (~11 min): true bolt-action AR uppers, pistol-length offerings, carbon vs stainless barrels, and that 960-yard demo with a 13″ tube.

What Uintah is selling (as taped)
Jason’s core pitch: a true bolt-action AR upper (and complete guns) so you get bolt-gun reliability with AR modularity. On the tape:
- Three-lug bolt with a 60° throw
- Barrel blanks from Preferred Barrels — 416R stainless match grade
- UPR10 large-frame line: standard talk included 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor offerings
- Uppers in 7075 billet aluminum; complete guns with a matching billet lower
- Lower spec called out as DPMS LR-308 Gen 1 — their lower or other Gen 1–spec lowers in that family
- Workflow: shoot it bolt-action long range, pop the two pins, drop a semi-auto upper on the same lower — two platforms, one gun
They’d traditionally offered longer barrels for long-range work. For that Shot Show year they were pushing pistol-length standard offerings too — on camera a 22″ Creedmoor and a 13″ 6.5 with a ~12″ handguard, Law Tactical folder, SBA3-style brace, Magpul furniture. Jason’s accuracy claim on that short gun: sub-quarter-inch groups with some factory ammo (their claim on tape — not my chronograph T&E).
The Q Fix question (and the 960-yard bit)
Title tease: “Should Q be worried?” On the tape I floated the obvious comparison to the Q Fix — short bolt precision pistols were already a trend. Jason wouldn’t trash-talk another brand. His points instead:
- With Uintah you can pop pins and run bolt + semi on the same package; a fixed chassis gun is what you get
- They guarantee accuracy and pitch sub-MOA with factory ammo “all day long” (again: manufacturer claim as taped)
- Value framing: stack it against the boutique short bolt market and you’re getting a lot of gun for the money in their view
Why pistol-length bolt guns at all? Hunting regs that limit “pistols,” packability with a folder, and running a can without a boat-anchor overall length. Jason had a Sandman L on the 13″ and said they were taking it to 960 yards with ease that day — and on the range cut you hear the hit call at that distance. Cool demo; still a range first look, not my multi-month reliability log.
UPR15 calibers, ordering, carbon vs steel
UPR15 (AR-15-size) standard offerings named on tape: .223 Wylde, .224 Valkyrie, 6.5 Grendel, .300 Blackout, and 6mm ARC.
Lead times (as of Shot Show 2022 — verify today): roughly ~2 weeks for standard offerings; about ~8 weeks for custom. Barrel profiles talked: 0.75″, 0.81″, 0.90″ heavy, plus carbon-fiber wrapped Preferred blanks. Length: as short as you want up to about 27″.
Carbon vs stainless: Jason treated it as application, not religion. Hunting / packing — lean carbon (~1–1.5 lb savings claimed). PRS / long strings on a bag — lean stainless. Same Preferred core barrel either way; carbon premium talked as roughly ~$350 more depending on options. Process notes on tape: tighter measuring on extension nuts/bolts, Cerakote on bolts and barrels (vs older black oxide), complete guns shipping in a Pelican hard case, and a kit path so you can buy bolt upper + semi upper + lower together.
Threads, cans, and restricted states
Barrels come threaded by default on the tape: 1/2×28 for .22-caliber family (.223 / .224), 5/8×24 for everything above unless requested otherwise. Live in a state where threaded barrels are a hassle, or you just never want NFA risk? They’ll do a bull barrel with an 11° target crown instead. Suppressors (including the Sandman L on the demo gun) are NFA — always follow federal, state, and local law; cans ship to eligible buyers only.
Bottom line
Uintah’s Shot Show 2022 story is modular bolt-action AR uppers (and completes) on a DPMS Gen 1–style lower, Preferred 416R stainless (or carbon-wrapped) barrels, pistol-length options that still stretch to nearly 1,000 yards on their demo day, and a “bolt today / semi tomorrow” pin-swap pitch against fixed short bolt chassis guns. Treat this as a 2022 range interview + first impressions tape — not my long-term accuracy or durability T&E — and verify current configs, lead times, and your state rules before you order.
