Channel fans and family, Smith & Wesson just put a name on the top job at Savage Arms. Adam Ruonala will join as President of Savage Arms, effective November 16, 2026. He’ll be based at Savage’s headquarters and manufacturing operations in Westfield, Massachusetts.

Quick note: this one is based on Smith & Wesson’s announcement via The Outdoor Wire, with a secondary read from SGB Media. I haven’t spoken with Ruonala or S&W about the hire.

TL;DR

  • Who: Adam Ruonala, most recently VP of Sales, Business Development & Marketing at Century Arms/CANIK USA.
  • Role: President of Savage Arms under Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ: SWBI).
  • Start date: November 16, 2026.
  • Where: Westfield, Massachusetts (Savage HQ / manufacturing).
  • Context: Follows S&W’s October 21, 2026 acquisition of Savage Arms (~$160M).

What’s happening

A little over two weeks after Smith & Wesson closed on Savage, they’re naming who runs it day to day. Ruonala comes over from Century Arms/CANIK USA, where he was VP of Sales, Business Development & Marketing. S&W says he brings extensive firearms industry expertise and proven leadership, and that in the new role he’ll lead Savage as it continues building on its heritage of innovation, quality, and performance.

If you followed our earlier coverage, this is the next chapter after S&W buying Savage for about $160 million on October 21. Putting a dedicated president in Westfield is the kind of move you expect when a big handgun company absorbs a long-gun brand it wants to keep alive under its own name.

What Mark Smith said

Mark Smith, President and CEO of Smith & Wesson:

“Adam’s experience across multiple facets of the firearms industry has equipped him with a keen understanding of the market and its customers. We are pleased to welcome him to Savage Arms and are confident he will play an important role in leading the company to new heights.”

What Ruonala said

“I am honored to join Savage Arms and become part of a brand with such a rich history and strong reputation among hunters, shooters, and outdoor enthusiasts. Savage has built an incredible legacy of innovation and value, and I look forward to working alongside the talented team at Savage Arms to continue serving our customers, growing the brand, and developing the next generation of products that meet the evolving needs of the marketplace.”

Our take

This is the leadership shoe dropping after the acquisition. S&W didn’t wait long to put someone in the Savage chair, and picking a sales/BD/marketing VP from another firearms brand signals they want someone who already speaks “dealer and shooter,” not a pure finance transplant. Ruonala landing in Westfield matters too — Savage’s identity is still tied to that Massachusetts plant and the AccuTrigger / Model 110 world. The open questions for us are the same ones we flagged after the deal: what happens to AccuCan, how hard S&W pushes Savage rimfire and bolt guns, and whether the Stance XR / long-gun overlap gets cleaned up or left alone. A named president doesn’t answer those yet, but it means there’s someone whose job it is to answer them.
