It’s a great rifle out of the box
This is the standard heavy-barreled 457: Turkish walnut varmint stock, a fat cylindrical barrel that likes a bag, and a 34″ overall length that still handles like a real rifle. CZ shortened and slab-sided the action versus the old 455, gave it a 60-degree bolt throw so a bigger optic actually fits, and kept the push-to-fire safety. The factory trigger is adjustable. The polymer magazines are reliable. Put decent glass on it, find match ammo it likes, and this thing will embarrass a lot of “custom” 22s people spent twice as much on.
If you never touch a chassis or a barrel, you still have a hunting, varmint, and range rifle that is boringly accurate. That is the point.
Why the 457 is the platform for NRL 22 and PRS Rimfire
The aftermarket is why a lot of us start here. The 457 uses CZ’s swappable-barrel system — two grub screws, barrel out, barrel in. Chassis and stocks from KRG, MDT, Boyds, and others drop the action into something that feels like your centerfire PRS gun. Aftermarket triggers take an already good factory pull into match territory. You grow into the sport instead of maxing the credit card on day one.
That is the training cheat code. Rimfire is cheap. Centerfire is not. Same positions, same wind, same stage planning — a lot more reps for the money.
