Squat Squad — mid-power variable optics are getting a lot more attention right now, and for good reason. A true LPVO like a 1–10 is hard to engineer well. A big 5–25 can be way too much glass on a modern sporting rifle. That is the gap the Vector Optics Continental 2-12×44 FFP is trying to fill.

Why a 2–12 instead of an LPVO or a 5–25
LPVOs are popular, but getting a good 1–10 right from the engineering side is not trivial. High-power glass in the 5–25 class is often too heavy for an MSR. A 2–12 sits in the middle: you can almost run it both-eyes-open at the low end, and it still gets you what you need for steel out toward a thousand yards — or, for the rimfire work I was doing, out to about 300 yards.

What is on this Continental 2–12×44
- Illuminated reticle with 11 brightness settings and an on/off between each one.
- Parallax down to 10 yards — that is the rimfire-friendly part.
- Knurling and adjustments that felt super smooth on this sample. Elevation and windage both locking, with nice audible clicks.
- The turret I showed has about 29.5 mils of adjustment on that cap. The scope itself is capable of over 65, and it includes a second turret cap that is not maxed out the same way — swap the cap as your needs change.
- Second and third turn indicators, markings on the ring, locking so you are not bumping zero around.
- Comes with a set of low-profile rings that work well on a bolt gun. Other ring heights are available.
Where Continental sits
Continental is relatively new to the U.S. market. In Europe they have been bigger — the pitch is good value, in the same conversation people already have about brands like Arken on the U.S. side. This is their higher-end optic lane, and it comes with a lifetime warranty.
