Olight Baldr Mini RL: Compact Light + Red Laser First Look

Olight Baldr Mini RL pistol light and red laser combo

Unboxing, features walkthrough, and outdoor impressions (~8 min) on the Olight Baldr Mini RL — compact pistol light with red laser. Not a multi-month durability T&E. Specs and pricing as taped; verify today’s listings before you buy.

Hey channel fans and family — you bought the handgun, maybe even dropped money on a solid red-dot, and now you want a compact light that won’t trash the budget. In this video I’m looking at the brand-new Olight Baldr Mini RL: 600-lumen flashlight, about 130-meter throw, red laser, and magnetic recharge — a lot of features for a miniature price.

Baldr Mini green vs Baldr Mini RL

Last year Olight dropped the feature-packed Baldr Mini with a green laser — still one of the most popular items I’ve pointed people to through the Amazon influencer store. The new Baldr Mini RL keeps that same compact pistol-light idea and swaps in a red laser. Same family, different color, and a few runtime differences that matter if you’re shopping on value.

Rechargeable battery and magnetic charge

Biggest quality-of-life win on these Mini lights: no stack of CR123s eating your wallet. Built-in rechargeable battery, magnetic charging port, and a cable that plugs into a standard USB port or adapter. One heads-up from the video — the MCC cable in the Baldr Mini box is not the same magnetic cable as many other Olight flashlights. The Mini cable is labeled special; don’t mix them up.

Ambi paddles and three modes

Ambidextrous rear paddles work like a lot of duty lights: press either side. Three modes, selected with the paddles:

  • Light only: starts at 600 lumens for about one minute, then steps down to 100 lumens for roughly 39 more minutes, then 60 lumens until the battery is done — same step-down story as the original Baldr Mini.
  • Light + laser: full intensity for the first minute, then light drops to 100 lumens with the laser still on for about 37 minutes (vs about 29 minutes on the green-laser Mini — green drains faster), then 60 lumens until exhaustion.
  • Laser only: roughly 11 hours of red laser runtime.

All three modes give you a quick press for constant on/off and a press-and-hold for momentary. The red laser looks crisp; the dot is smaller than green and generally harder to pick up in bright light unless green isn’t an option for you.

Mount: Picatinny, Glock-style, and quick release

One of my favorite design bits: the mount system. Compatible with Picatinny and Glock-style rails; both inserts are in the box, Glock-style pre-installed. It looks like one piece, but it’s actually two — the light and the rail mount — with a quick-release switch so you can pull the light off for charging without leaving the whole pistol sitting on a USB port in the safe. Slide the light onto the mount, push it back toward the trigger guard for paddle reach, flip the lock, done.

IPX4, MSRP, and who it’s for

Rated IPX4 — splash-proof, not submersion waterproof. If you need true waterproofing, you’ll look elsewhere and usually pay more. On price, the Baldr Mini RL lands with an MSRP just under $110. That’s not a $30–$40 no-name eBay light, and it’s also not Surefire / Streamlight money. Those brands may skip some of the feature stack (recharge + laser in one tiny package), but they’re the ones with the long duty / abuse reputation.

Personal contrast from the video: my Streamlight TLR-2s has about half the lumens and eats batteries, but it also survived sitting flooded in my basement for more than five hours. Would the Mini survive that? Honestly, doubtful — and that’s fine if you’re honest about the use case.

So who should buy it? If you want maximum features per dollar and the gun lives more in the safe / home-defense role than on a duty belt or overseas, this is an attractive option — especially for a first handgun light when something goes bump at night.

Bottom line

The Olight Baldr Mini RL packs a 600-lumen light, red laser, magnetic recharge, and a clever two-piece mount into a tiny, wallet-friendly package. It’s a great value play for home-defense and first-time light buyers — not my pick as a hard-use duty light.
