Who Clamtainer is
Jay’s crew are plastics people — they’ve made ammo containers for other manufacturers, and at this tape they were pushing a direct-to-consumer line anyone can buy. Pitch from the booth: 100% made in the USA factory and materials, in-house design and tooling, and a simple pin-and-hole latch so when it clicks, you know it’s closed.
AmmoBuddy (hunters + pocket carry)
The little AmmoBuddy is the hunter’s pal: five rounds held securely, closes for the pocket, opens one-handed, and with practice you can even stage a round out one-handed. There’s also a waterfowl-oriented clam that holds 25 rounds of 12 or 20 gauge — reusable, so a soaked cardboard factory box isn’t falling apart in the boat.
Why clear, interlocking ammo boxes beat “blue box shuffle”
Reloaders know the classic opaque polymer boxes where rounds just sit in holes and rattle. Clamtainer’s clear boxes let you see count and load recipe at a glance, and they interlock-stack — Jay’s demo claim was you can tip the stack around 30° and they don’t slide apart.
The bigger deal for precision shooters: soft or no crimp means you don’t want bullets setbacking from bumps. These grip around the case with little fingers instead of dropping the round into a loose hole. Jay said the USA rifle team had adopted their clamtainers for travel ammo protection (claim on their site as of that tape).
Caliber coverage (as taped)
- Rifle “30 cal” 20-count — one box covers a parent-case range roughly .243 through .30-06 (including 6.5 Creedmoor / .308-family cases), instead of buying a dedicated clam for every flavor.
- Magnum / “big guy” — up through things like 300 Win Mag, 300 Weatherby, 375 H&H; .338 Lapua was “barely / snug,” with a larger case size said to be coming.
- Handgun — coverage called out for common stuff (9mm, .38 Special, .357, .45 ACP); most handgun boxes in the line were ~50-round capacity on that tape.
Price talk at the booth: volume breaks on the site, but ballpark was roughly a $2 bill covering most containers — as of SHOT 2022 / May 2022 upload. Durability: no plastic “shelf life,” hinge is the wear item; they’d run 150 open/close cycles × 20-round packs (~3,000 rounds) with no issues, impact-modified plastic drop-tested cold to about −30°F.
Not just ammo — range-bag stuff
Same latch idea shows up elsewhere in the lineup:
- Battery clam — pull one cell without dumping the rest; claimed drop-closed security.
- Shooting-glasses case — designed around a pile of real safety glasses so most shapes fit; cheap insurance for expensive lenses.
- Cleaning / patch clam — one-handed open while you’re holding a gun, so Hoppe’s No. 9 isn’t bathing your whole bag because a ziplock failed.
Jay also showed their USA-made Doom Box mousetrap (same latch language, bait, set, contain the mess) — fun booth aside if you’ve ever dreaded the fridge-drag scenario.

At SHOT Show 2022 Jay said the line was out and in stock at clamtainer.com. Product mix, sizing, and pricing may have changed since May 2022 — check the site (or current dealers) before you rebuild the ammo shelf.
Bottom line
If you care about protected precision ammo, clear inventory at a glance, interlocking stacks, or a five-round hunter pocket clam, Clamtainer’s AmmoBuddy / clam line is exactly the kind of boring-but-brilliant gear that cleans up a range bag. This was a booth interview and hands-on first look — not a formal range durability study — so treat claims as taped and verify before you buy a shelf worth.
