Burris RT-25 5-25×56: Budget FFP Precision Scope Review

Burris RT-25 5-25x56 FFP rifle scope review

Hands-on ~8-minute review of the Burris RT-25 5-25×56 FFP with range impressions (including work out to ~750 yards in mirage). Feature walkthrough and practical takeaways — not a multi-month T&E with group data. Street pricing changes; verify today’s price and stock before you buy.

Hey channel fans and family — the mid-tier FFP precision market is crowded, and Burris threw another hat in the ring with the RT-25. I condensed what you actually need to know into one short video: reticle, throw lever, turrets, glass, and who this scope is (and isn’t) for.

What the RT-25 is aiming at

This is Burris’s play for new and growing precision-rifle shooters — match work or stretching distance at the range. For PRS / NRL-style dynamic shooting, I called out two essentials: a first focal plane reticle and a Christmas-tree holdover layout. FFP keeps the hash marks valid at every magnification so you can hold wind and elevation without clicking every correction.

My usual workflow in the video: 100-yard zero, then holdovers for wind and elevation unless I’m on one fixed long distance or really stretching — then I dial elevation.

SCR-2 reticle

The glass carries Burris’s SCR-2 reticle — designed with pro shooters in mind for match and long-range work. You’ve got 0.2 mil hash marks and a thin 0.1 mil crosshair. Big win for me: it’s thin enough at high power that it doesn’t blot out the target, but still usable down low. A lot of FFP scopes fail one end of that tradeoff. In this video I called SCR-2 my favorite reticle I’d used in a rifle scope so far.

Controls, tube, and elevation

  • 5–25x magnification range with a smooth power ring
  • Movable throw lever — metal fin that seats in cut channels (nicer than a strap-on lever)
  • Fast-focus eyepiece — get the reticle sharp before anything else
  • Parallax from 25 yards to infinity
  • About 3.5 inches of eye relief; fairly forgiving eyebox
  • 56 mm objective on a 30 mm tube
  • Internal elevation: about 65 MOA / ~19 mils — with a 100-yard zero and a flat-base 6.5 Creedmoor, roughly enough dial for ~1,000 yards; a 20–30 MOA canted base helps if you dial a lot
  • Reticle holdovers add roughly another 20 mils of elevation in the tree
  • Turrets: 8 mils per revolution, 0.1 mil clicks, zero stop, locking turrets — tactile/audible, not as “sharp tactical” as something like an Arken SH-4, Vortex Venom, or Element Titan (per the video comparison)

Glass at the range

Image quality was surprisingly good for the price point on the day I filmed. I’d shot with it out to about 750 yards in hot, humid, heavy-mirage conditions. Rough practical notes from the video: distinguishing bullet holes out around 300 yards was fine; seeing individual steel hits out toward 600–700 yards was workable. Bright and vibrant with no major color shifts, and sharpness held up well enough that I could separate a shot-up plate from the berm behind it at ~330 yards.

Honesty check: this is not $2k+ Leupold / Tangent Theta glass. Past about 20x toward 25x, brightness and clarity fall off, and you start seeing edge distortion at full magnification. Also — any through-the-scope camera footage loses resolution; look through one yourself if you can.

Who it’s for (and who should look elsewhere)

Good fit if you want an FFP Christmas-tree scope for PRS / NRL22 on a budget, or you’re a long-range hunter who likes holdovers. Locking turrets + zero stop at this tier are real value.

Look elsewhere if you need an illuminated reticle, you live on low magnification, or you predominantly dial and want more internal elevation travel.

Would you run the Burris RT-25 for PRS/NRL22 or as a holdover hunter optic?
