Who is Pristine Actions?
Gary’s pitch on tape: a crew of CNC machinists who also shoot, tired of other actions and convinced they could do better. They’d been doing R&D for about two years before that Shot Show. Branding lives under Pristine Technologies / Pristine Actions, and the site they called out is shootpristine.com.
Where it’s made matters for this one: they manufacture in-house in Chilliwack, British Columbia (about an hour east of Vancouver) — machining through assembly and packaging, not just a logo slapped on a blank. Gary said exporting the actions into the U.S. was straightforward on their end (Canada’s own rules for bringing fun stuff back home are a different story — we joked about that on camera).
Remage footprint, Savage barrel, six-lug bolt
This is what they call a Remage action:
- Remington 700 footprint for stocks/chassis — not a pure Rem 700 clone
- Savage small-shank / Savage-thread barrel front so you can hang a Savage-pattern barrel
- Six-lug floating bolt head with swappable bolt faces called out as .223, .308, and 6.5 Creedmoor
- Still a 90° bolt throw (Gary compared the lug layout vibe to what we were seeing on the then-new CZ 600s — six lugs vs the classic Rem two-lug look)
Why the interchangeable head? Cheap practice: run your PRS/comp rifle in something like a 6mm Creedmoor family, then swap to a .223 head + barrel when you want to train without burning match ammo. That’s their claim on tape — cool concept if you’ve lived the “practice is expensive” tax.
Also in the box talk: they include a 20 MOA scope base with the action. Demo rifle at the booth was in a GRS stock (discontinued color on that one — shout-out to GRS for lending it).
Dual ejectors, mechanical extraction, roller cocking
Hands-on bits that sold me at the booth:
- Two ejectors instead of a single — aimed at more positive brass clearance
- A mechanical curve on the bolt body to help extraction (less “pray and yank”)
- A roller into the cocking mechanism so cocking is more roll than friction — that’s the “buttery” feel everyone kept grabbing for
Gary’s own story: he’d been a relative rookie on the feel game, shot the owner’s Tikka T3 setup, then switched to their action and said the difference was obvious even to him. My take after cycling it with friends at the show: closing and locking felt smooth as butter — one of the best actions I played with that week, including against custom stuff I’ve run at matches. That’s booth first impressions, not a logged T&E accuracy string.
