Channel fans and family — at Shot Show 2023 I finally hit a booth a lot of you asked for: Christensen Arms. Competitive and extended long-range shooting has been one of the fastest-growing corners of the precision world, and PRS Production was built so you don’t need a $10,000 custom before your first stage. Christensen showed up with two Modern Precision offerings aimed at that lane — and at weekend long-range shooters who just want a purpose-built gun that won’t hold them back.

Modern Precision Rifle — the lighter “do both” chassis
Jeff framed it clearly: Christensen respects PRS, but a huge chunk of their buyers are recreational long-range shooters who want the right architecture for weekend steel — not necessarily a match-only brick. The back rifle on the table was the standard Modern Precision Rifle (the NPR that took the Golden Bullseye Rifle of the Year in 2020 on tape).
- Adjustable cheek rise and length of pull via Allen set screws — chassis guns need that because faces and optic axes aren’t one-size
- Folding stock that folds to the bolt side so the opposite side stays smooth for backpack carry; rare-earth magnet to hold it closed
- Outlet for a short Pic rail so you can add a monopod or bag rider
- Factory AR-style pistol grip (most shooters swap anyway — personal preference)
- TriggerTech adjustable trigger with a flat shoe
- AICS / CIP-length magazines (long-action capable on the platform as discussed)
- 20 MOA canted rail from the factory
- New FFT handguard with that chopped carbon look, carbon barrel, and their standard side-port brake

Modern Precision Rifle Competition — purpose-built heft
Same rear-end adjustability and folding stock DNA, but competition-forward from the grip forward:
- 90-degree competition pistol grip with a thumb shelf — the kind of grip that actually tends to stay on the gun because it’s built for straight-back trigger presses
- Same TriggerTech adjustable trigger story and 20 MOA rail
- The big visual/functional split: a zero-taper stainless steel bull barrel instead of the carbon hunting/rec package
Weight as taped: about 16–17 lb depending on short vs long action — heavy enough that Jeff called it weight-prohibitive for packing on a hunt, ideal for vehicle → bench/mat → vehicle. Roughly ~10 lb heavier than the carbon Modern Precision on the table next to it.
Why the thumb shelf matters: at distance, even a little twist on the trigger shows up on steel. Jeff’s line I liked — it doesn’t magically make the rifle more accurate; it helps you extract what the rifle can already do. One inch at 100 is ten inches at a thousand — small consistency wins add up.
Industry Day story (6mm Creedmoor)
Christensen brought the Competition rifle chambered in 6mm Creedmoor to Industry Day at the Range. Jeff’s booth claim: with a high-power long-range optic on top, they helped roughly 86–87 people (almost a hundred on the day) hit steel at about 1,100 yards — in serious wind (averages called ~15–25 mph with gusts way higher on tape). Barrel life, calibers, buying path (as taped)
For Production Division especially in hotter 6mms, barrel life matters. Jeff: barrels are the easiest/cheapest major wear part versus scope or action — contact a dealer or Christensen and they aim to keep barrels “on the rack” ready so you’re not sitting out matches waiting months.
Sales path: no factory-direct — dealers and national distributors only (five distributors mentioned on tape). Caliber menu on tape included the usual long-range marksmanship chamberings plus rollouts like 6mm GT and 6mm ARC (ultra-low recoil, fun to handload — with the usual wind caveats vs bigger wind-fighters).
Pricing & guarantee talk (2023 booth numbers)
Jeff’s MSRP framing on the floor: the carbon Modern Precision “shade over $2,000,” Competition a bit more. He credited composite / Flash Forge (FFT) manufacturing and better machining for getting carbon barrel + carbon forend chassis packages into that neighborhood in 2023. Note the inverse intuition some buyers have: on the standard NPR family they also offer a steel-barrel version that prices under the carbon barrel SKU — Competition’s stainless bull is a different, heavier mission and sits higher.
Accuracy promise on tape: three shots under 1 MOA at 100 yards, plus a lifetime guarantee for non-malicious issues. Treat dollars and guarantees as 2023 booth talk — confirm today’s SKUs, weights, and street price on Christensen’s site / your dealer.
